Color, Drawing, Form: Final Post

Overall I have really enjoyed this class and now I wish it lasted a little bit longer. We had such a large amount of content put in to one tiny little semester and I don't think everything I have learned has really absorbed completely just yet...

I am excited to apply my new found knowledge to my design work and I am sure that I will really grow to appreciate everything this class has given me.

Paul Rand Tribute

This video is beautiful.

It utalizes all of the basic transitions and some more complex ones as well.

"Without content there's no form"
I agree that if you don't include any background with your imagery there is nothing to utalize in reading it.

You must balance form and content to make design work.


"Representational" "Abstract" and "Symbolic" Shapes

Representational = You can clearly determine what is being portrayed.

Abstract = You can determine what is being portrayed when the image is paired with meaning and the image can possibly be interpreted multiple ways.

Symbolic = You recognize the object being portrayed because it is a part of your cultural framework.

According to the reading it all depends on perception.
I agree.
It depends on your cultural surroundings, your generation and your interests.

The Urge to Make Things

So I like what he says about the artist becoming the things he creates...
Does that mean that if you make one great painting you are a great painter, or if you make one great design that you are great designer?

The painter, I think could possibly be true. It feel like it is harder to make a good painting than it is to make a good design...

You could stumble upon a good design and just get lucky but painting takes layers of work and physical effort...

Does it also mean that if you make one terrible piece of art, that you are a terrible artist?
I think it goes neither way...


Maybe majority rules, if most of your work is good then you are good...

I think it depends on who the critic is.
